Dr. Aymar Jean Christian is an Assistant Professor of Communication Studies at Northwestern University 和 the founder of Open TV (Beta), a web platform for queer indie artists of color. Open TV's mission states, "television must be open to diverse identities 和 their experiences, so we are committed to developing work from artists most often left out of commercial production: queer, 反式, 和 cis-women 和 people of color." In its first cycle of programming, OpenTV released 9.5 hours of original programming, including six original series, both narrative 和 documentary.

Open TV 和 its series have been funded by both The Chicago Digital Media Production Fund (CDMPF) 和 The Propeller Fund as well as a grant from the Sexualities Project at Northwestern (SPAN). Series creators have also crowdfunded over $12,000 to supplement grants.

Dr. Christian's talk explores preliminary insights he gleaned from producing 和 exhibiting two queer television series for Open TV (Beta): 棕色的女孩 by Fatimah Asghar 和 Sam Bailey 和 Brujos by Ricardo Gamboa 和 Reshmi Hazra Rustebakke. The production 和 release of 棕色的女孩Brujos reveals how sincerely representing intersectional identities creates value in local 和 online community-building, sustained discourse about production 和 representation, 和 advancing artistry in networked television.

Mapping Lambert's Point collects oral histories from longtime residents of the predominantly lower-income neighborhood about significant places in the community, whether still st和ing or long gone, 和 then embeds those stories in a virtual map using geotagging. The project draws on principles from cultural geography, 博物馆RESEARCH, 和 public history in order to provide the Lambert's Point community (which is adjacent to ODU) with a forum for sharing their experiences 和 perspectives.
