We currently support 窗户 10 and 窗户 11 on PCs across campus.
窗户 10

窗户 10 offers several improvements over 窗户 7, not the least of which is security. Here are some of the other benefits you can expect:

窗户 11
As 窗户 continues to evolve, we work hard to release updates and make the latest features available. Many computers on campus have been upgraded to 窗户 11, or will be soon. 乍一看, the desktop looks very different from 窗户 10, but most elements of the 窗户 operating system are the same in 窗户 11.
任务栏
The biggest change to the 任务栏 and 开始菜单 in 窗户 11 is the 任务栏 has been moved to the center. This can be changed in the Settings menu under 任务栏 Behaviors.
团队聊天
There is also a new 团队聊天 icon that is added in 窗户 11 and pinned to the taskbar. Microsoft Teams is a useful application for collaboration and it is installed by default on all ODU computers; however, the 团队聊天 icon is only useable with personal Microsoft Accounts. Please ignore the 团队聊天 app or remove it in the Settings menu.
右键菜单
In an effort to simplify file management, Microsoft has introduced a condensed right-click menu. To see the full right-click menu, click "Show more options" at the bottom.
文件资源管理器
While navigating your files in 窗户 11 through 文件资源管理器, you may notice that it automatically groups your files together by date. To disable this grouping, click on Sort -> Group by and select "(None)".
注意:不幸的是, this must be done to each folder individually - it cannot be done to all subfolders at the same time.
窗户更新
ITS works hard to ensure that Old Dominion University has a secure and reliable IT infrastructure. We thoroughly test new operating systems with ODU technology before rolling out the latest version to all computers on campus.
We strive to make updates as seamless as possible, but there are a couple of things you can do to ensure a smooth upgrade when the need arises:
- Store your files in OneDrive (never your local hard drive).
University employees must be careful to protect confidential or restricted data. Before using OneDrive to send, store or share University information, review the regulated data storage matrix. - Begin using the new Microsoft Edge browser, and turn on the backup features to save your bookmarks.
- Collect all of your software and make a list for your TSP.
